THE PINNACLE OF THE PROFESSION:
By: ShadowWing
Disclaimer: Okay the JLA is owned by DC Comics, Belle/SW is mine and Shadow/SW is Wolfie’s ask before borrowing please?
Author’s Notes: Okay I’m writing this after the ‘Queen of Fables’ arc in JLA takes place, but I’m assuming (DC could actually surprise me and do something different) the despite the fact Bats saved the JLA’s butts they STILL won’t let him back into the team. If they do offer Bats will turn it down etc etc etc… So I guess this can be considered an Elseworlds right? Also this story is the sequel to Wolfie’s ‘Confrontations’ over in the Other Tales section. Got it? Good… Start Reading!
Belle yanked the receiver from her ear, man she had forgotten how loud Shadow Travis could be when irate. Well Spirit Wolf wasn’t that loud but she was irate for several very good reasons, mostly they were armed and carrying automatic weapons.
“I’m detouring to Gotham!” She finally yelled at the semi deaf Belle Anderson.
“I’ll send a chopper after you, we do have a dinner tonight that…” She was abruptly cut off by Shadow ending the call. As she placed the phone back on the hook she inwardly groaned. Belfry Brains has really done it this time. And the JLA in her opinion wasn’t much better. This was Batman we were talking about here, he was paranoid to the absolute core, he kept files on everything and everyone that could possible be interpreted as a threat to a Bat Cave dust bunny.
But he could have told them about the files. So other people could use them if needed. Hell if she ever became a raging manic bent on world domination Belfry Brains would be number one on the hit list, jumping ahead of Superman by a long shot. It was common sense to anybody who knew him: herself, Dick, Tim, Alfred, Shadow may not have known that he actually had those files but she knew he was capable creating and keeping them.
Now Shadow was going to give him a piece of her mind about it, poor Bruce. She made a mental note that if she ever needed to take out Batman, to sic Spirit Wolf on him, he’d be so irritated that’d he surrender post haste…nah he wouldn’t but it was a funny thought. She sighed and toyed with the idea on calling J’onn J’onzz, her old mentor in all things psi would not be happy to say the least about this recent development, she didn’t wanna think about the mental attitude up in the WatchTower when they voted Batman off the JLA.
She also remembered all too clearly the recent ‘Queen of Fables’ episode that changed her hometown into an enchanted forest. Oy! Belle got a migraine just remembering it, something about a dragon outside her penthouse window…
Belle also decided to grab a case of Oreos and several gallons of milk if she decided to go to Z’onn Z’orr J’onn might need the comfort food.
As she walked across her penthouse apartment to grab a communicator so she could locate the Martian, Belle felt a familiar twinge in the back of her mind. She knew what that meant; J’onn was in the area, maybe even the building. She sprinted across the apartment and was seated behind her computer and tapping in the codes that would allow her to access the building’s security cameras and a few that she had installed herself. Sure enough her eyes in the sky soon picked spotted the private investigator ‘John Jones’ in the main lobby, but that’s not what caused Belle’s jaw to hit the floor. It was who was with Mr. Jones.
Clark Kent.
AKA Superman.
Oh Boy. How often can one say that the defacto leaders of the fricken JLA dropped by for a cup of coffee? She grabbed the phone and called Shadow to leave a message, dinner was going to be late.
As he and Clark stepped into the elevator he sighed. “Are you sure you want to do this?” J’onn asked.
“Yes.” Came the reply, “We need the help, badly. The recent Queen of Fables mess showed us that.”
“She could refuse, you know.” Cautioned J’onn, “He began her training after all, she may defy him at times, but she’ll never betray him.”
“You stated to the others that you finished her training, they trust you far more than they’ll trust him these days, the other candidates declined or already had other responsibilities. Besides it’ll be good to have another full time telepath on the team.” Clark sighed. “Look I don’t like the idea of replacing him any better than you do, but we need a true detective on the team, and if I could get him back I would, but the others…”
“Still do not trust him even though he helped us during the Queen of Fables mess, it wasn’t Gotham, and he didn’t have to help because he was no longer a member of the team.” J’onn sighed. “He helped us because we needed it.”
The elevator pinged and came to a stop on the penthouse level and the pair exited the elevator.
Belle had been doing the fastest tidy job of her life and gave her cat a firm warning. “Sharpen your claws on the Man of Steel Magic and I’ll lock you in the bathroom with Mist, got it?” The cat gave her mistress a nod before the knock on the door.
Belle yanked open the door and gave J’onn a grin. “Hello ‘Uncle’ what brings you to the other side of the Rocky Mountains?” Her grin got wider when the normally stoic Martian cracked a smile at the reference to when Belle was under his wing so to speak. She had to assume the identity of John Jones’ niece in order not to raise suspicion when almost overnight the single police officer had an active teenager living with him. Clark also chucked reminding both telepaths of his presence.
“Belle I assume you know of Clark Kent, of the Daily Planet?” He stated. This had to be the most surreal conversation of Belle’s life.
“Of course please come in.” After the two men had entered Belle shut the door and muttered. “Drop the mild mannered pretence, if anybody can eavesdrops in this place I’ll track them down and hire them.”
Clark was caught off guard at the complete one-eighty attitude change Belle Anderson just did, one second New York Native, next second full ShadowWing mode. Okay Bruce did that too but only when the cowl was in place and he was in the BatCave. “Hire them?” He muttered.
“You would be surprised at how many hackers and spies are now in the employ of those who they were suppose to be spying on in the first place.” Belle grinned; Black Magic was carefully sniffing both aliens trying to figure them both out. “So may I ask why you two decided to pay little old me a visit?”
J’onn grinned, Belle rarely beat around the bush unless she had to, preferring to cut to the chase rather than waiting things out. Drove him nuts some days while she was living with him, and has assisted her a few times while helping him with some murder cases. Though she could be as patient as spider as well when warranted. One of many contradictions in her mental makeup that made her as unpredictable as they came. “I am sure that you have heard about the status of Batman’s membership in the JLA?” He mentioned.
“Who in the hero community has not heard about it yet?” Belle should have guessed that would be the topic of the visit, for the most part she was a neutral figure in the hero business, rarely siding or working with any established group or team. J’onn and Clark most likely wanted her help in looking for a suitable replacement for either Batman or the Manhunter, most likely Batman, J’onn was a detective yes, but his primary role in the JLA was councilor and keeping the team linked up via telepathy. Good and powerful telepaths were rare; finding another detective would be much easier in the long run. As her mind clicked through possible suitable candidates she moved toward the kitchen. “Would either of you like something to drink?”
“Coffee please.” Mentioned Clark, wondering how best to breach this topic to her.
“Milk.” Replied J’onn giving the black cat still sniffing at his ankles another look. “Maybe some for you cat too.”
Belle rolled her eyes as she gave a sharp whistle; on cue the cat gave up sniffing J’onn and jumped next too Clark on the couch, on reflex he began to scratch her behind the ears turning the cat to silly putty. With the cat thus defused Clark continued when Belle re-entered the room with the various drinks for them and herself. “After the recent Queen of Fables episode we have discovered that we do need a full time detective on the JLA and was wondering if you could help us in that department.”
Belle smiled, “There are not too many detectives out there without some connection to Batman with the caliber you need up there, let alone one that can work as a full time member of the JLA. I mean Nightwing has the Titans, Robin has Young Justice and is a tad young despite his mental maturity. There are not too many out there to begin with…”
J’onn got a strange grin on his face that made Belle nervous, it usually preceded something that would knock Belle off her feet. She really hated it when he grinned like that. “You forgot a detective, there is another out there aside from myself that could fill the role.”
Belle blinked, well he was right there was another detective, there was herself but there was no way that they could even consider... They were... No way... Her eyes got huge. J’onn must have picked up her thoughts because his grin got even bigger. She snapped her head toward Clark to confirm her suspicions.
“Yes we are here to ask you Belle Anderson, ShadowWing, to join the JLA full time.” Clark gave a smile at the stunned face before him.
Belle quickly sat down. “You want me, Little Miss Chaos Bringer, to take Mr. Grim, Gritty and Stoic’s place on the JLA?”
Clark sighed, “Yes, though you have a connection to Batman, J’onn assured the others that you are more his protégé then Batman’s. You are a first class detective, have access to various outside resources just as he does, add to that the fact you are a full telepath adding backup to J’onn makes you an ideal candidate.”
Belle’s eyes narrowed, “How does the rest of the JLA feel about a Bat-Trained replacement? Last thing I want is to be looked at as another Batman, from what I heard he left some nasty feelings behind, dealing with that will not be fun to say the least.”
“The fact J’onn was your primary teacher clears a great deal of that away, they trust him far more than they trust Batman. And you do not even act like him most of the time, from all outward appearances you go to great pains not to act like him.” Clark countered.
“I would state that I have too many non-hero duties to attend to, but you’ll just counter that if Aquaman can rule seventy percent of the Earth and still be a full time JLA member I can pull it off too. Right?”
Both Clark and J’onn grinned.
Belle sighed, “When do you want my decision? I’m gonna have to give this one some thought.”
“The next meeting isn’t until next week, you have some time.” J’onn assured her. “Besides we have to break this to the rest of the JLA as well, have you done anything that would upset any of them that we should know about?”
Belle thought about it, “No, not that I can recall.”
“Good we’ll hopefully hear from you soon.” After everybody went back to mild mannered mode they two men left the apartment and one Belle Anderson to so some heavy thinking.
Shadow Travis was sitting at the table of the high-class steak house waiting for Belle to appear. This was not like Belle to be late, the woman was almost punctual to a fault, much to her annoyance. All she knew was the quick voice mail message Belle left on her cell phone that she had some unexpected guests she couldn’t get rid of right away and she’d be there as soon as she could.
Finally at last Belle appeared, slightly fried she signaled the bartender on her way by and on cue he had a heavy and potent drink on the table next to Belle. Shadow quickly moved it toward her side of the table.
She snapped, “No way honey, I finally got M&M to tell me exactly what happened last time you got nice and drunk, I agree with him. No way in hell are you touching a drop of this thing I don’t have the powers to clean up after you.” Shadow stopped her ranting long enough to see that Belle was not a little fried, but very fried. Like somebody just dropped a hot potato in her lap she couldn’t toss away. “What happened Belle?”
“M&M and the Boy Scout happened, that’s what,” replied Belle. “And the drink isn’t for me.”
“Those were the surprise guests?” Gulped Shadow taking a sip from the drink. She then glared at Belle’s reference to the drink, the younger woman knew her just a tad too well at times.
“Uh huh, they wanted to talk about the needed replacement up there.” Belle rolled her eyes heavenward in reference to the WatchTower above.
“Who? Who are they roping into stepping into Grim and Gritty’s hot seat.” Quipped Shadow, “And how are you involved with it?”
“Me.”
Shadow took several swallows of the drink. “Whoa. You are the replacement?”
Belle nodded.
“Are you going to accept it?” Shadow gaped.
“I don’t know.” Replied Belle putting her head into her hands.
Shadow blinked at her friend in disbelief, “Are you nuts? This is the Justice League we are talking about here, the biggest dream that every person who has ever put on a wacky costume to fight the forces of evil has. To be up there and be considered on par with the likes of the Boy Scout and Wonder Wench. It’s not something you can gracefully say no to.”
Belle looked up. “Since when do I do anything predictable and accepted?”
“Almost never, but I’m willing to bet every person up there will not expect you to say yes, including Grim and Gritty himself, so why say no?” Shadow grinned at the thought of Batman's expression when he heard the news of ShadowWing taking his place.
“Let’s see now, full time job at Anderson Industries, add to that the Opal business and my nightly work in the city is bad enough to keep track off, add the JLA to the mix…oy…” Muttered Belle.
Shadow glared at Belle, “Those are just excuses and you know it Anderson. Spill it, why are you even hesitating? What’s really holding you back?”
“I’m the one with the Psychology Degrees Shadow. Doing the Shrink bit doesn’t work on me and you know it.” Grumbled Belle.
“You’re stalling.” Smirked Shadow
“I know damn it.” Belle sighed, “In all honesty I don’t think I’m good enough to be up there, especially under these conditions.”
Shadow sputtered and took another gulp of the drink. “Not good enough? Your pinkie finger has better qualifications than Spirit Wolf will ever dream of having. Lets see, you have a power that is an extreme asset to the JLA and backs up another member in times of trouble. You run, single handily, an international organization that would make Ra’s Al Gul cringe. You are most likely listed in the top ten of the world’s greatest detectives. From an employers stand point you are perfect, again what’s the big deal?”
Belle groaned, “Being considered a ‘replacement’, being looked at, despite my own accomplishments as either a ‘fill-in’ or tarred with the same brush of distrust that got Pointy Ears kicked out. That’s what is holding me back Shadow, the only reason I am being asked to join is because they need another detective to replace Batman, not because they think ShadowWing would be a good addition to the JLA ranks.”
“The solution to your problem is simple my dear raptor, Join up and prove them wrong.” Shadow’s face broke into a sly grin.
“What?” Sputtered Belle.
“Prove them wrong, you go up there thinking you are only a ‘Replacement-Bat’ then by Wanka Tanka you will be one. Who gives a flying rodent on the exact reason behind the request to join, you’ve been asked, it’s a challenge and an opportunity of a lifetime, and you’ve never passed one of those up.” Shadow continued to grin.
Belle’s eyes narrowed in thought. Shadow was right, the only think holding her back was herself, and didn’t she say the best leaders and members were the ones who never thought themselves worthy of the roles in the first place? So, again, why not? The next hurdle was the rest of the League, how to get past the Anti-Bat mindset they currently had.
Belle grinned. “I’ll do it.”
Shadow grinned bigger. “Atta Girl! Now can we actually eat? I’m starving!”
Two hours later both women entered Belle’s penthouse with wolves in tow and Belle sighed as they both plopped into the couch. “Coffee or tea Shadow?”
“Coffee please. Any ideas how to get past the Anti-Bat League yet?” Asked Shadow.
Belle shook her head, “Not really, I have no clue who voted which way so I don’t know whose really Anti-Bat, but I could find out…”
“How it was a closed door meeting? Unless you hack into the security tapes you have no idea what happened up there.” Shadow leaned against the kitchen bar and hoisted herself up on a stool as Belle loaded up the coffeepot.
“J’onn was there, he might tell me.” Muttered Belle biting her lip.
“Might.” Stated Shadow frowning. “He’d be reluctant to betray they trust.”
“But he can see from my point of view. I’d like to know what I’m getting into before I jump in.” Belle sighed, “I’ll call and ask, it never hurts to ask all he needs to say is no and I’ll drop it.”
“Or we can deduce who we think went what way.” Stated Shadow, “Shouldn’t be too hard, between the two of us we have met all the Leaguers, we can figure this out.”
Belle nodded, “Okay lets go with who we know the best, J’onn J’onzz, how would he go?”
Shadow thought for a moment. “He’d wanna keep Batman in, as a telepath he’d know that Batman didn’t mean any harm to the others and though he wouldn’t have liked being turned into a living torch, he at least understood the reasons for having such fail safes in place. Now how about Aquaman? How’d he go?”
Belle bit her lip going by what Garth had told her over the years about Aquaman; “Arthur is very open about his emotions, when he’s mad you know it. His relationships are built on trust, deceit and such abhorrent to him; as such he’d view Batman’s files being kept on him and the others without their knowledge, no matter how good the reasons behind it as a sign of betrayal. He vote to kick I’m sure of that. Green Lantern?”
“He is still new to the super hero game, he’d be reluctant to kick anybody out, especially a living legend like Batman. He’d vote to keep him. Same with Flash, especially when you add in the Titans connection with Nightwing. He knows Batman can’t be all bad if Dick turned out as well as he did.” Shadow smirked.
“Wonder Woman is another toughy, like Aquaman she’d burn at the betrayal and how closely Batman watched her for weaknesses, but with time she could be turned around. However there was no time for this, she acts quickly, like a true warrior. She may see his continued presence in the JLA as a liability due to the lack of trust toward him. Therefore from a warrior’s point of view…” Stated Belle.
“She’d kick him too. So far we have three to keep and two to kick him out whose left?” Muttered Shadow.
“Plastic Man and Superman.” Sighed Belle.
“Since he was kicked we have to assume they both voted to kick, only way the voting works, assuming we have the others pegged right.” Muttered Shadow.
“No it doesn’t,” Countered Belle, “because I cannot see Superman voting to kick Batman. Look Superman must be the only being on this planet that can state he really knows Batman or at the very least knows him better than the other Leaguers. I mean come on. He trusted Bruce with Luthor’s Kryponite ring, trusted Bruce to take him out if it was ever necessary, because he knew that no matter what, that despite the friendship between them Batman would do what needed to be done.” Belle paused. “To take him down if he ever became a threat…”
Shadow’s eyes got huge. “If we keep on that theory than one must assume that if the Big Blue trusted Batman to take him out if things went wrong, then one must assume that Superman knew that Batman would know how to take the entire JLA out, for the same reasons we know. It’s something that has to be done, and Batman would follow through with it. It’s in the Bat’s nature, and it’s not right to punish a man for following his nature. Therefore no matter which way Superman votes he’s screwed, he votes to kick, he’s betraying the Bat’s trust, he votes to stay, he may get resentment from the League.”
“The only way that would happen is if it was a three-three tie, with Superman casting the deciding vote. Batman knows how the JLA votes, Superman as the de-facto leader would vote last, especially if there is a tie. So if you were Batman, and Batman does consider Superman a friend what would you do in this situation?” Queried Belle, her voice taking on the harsher tones of ShadowWing. “Simple, don’t put him through the pain of the decision, leave first for the good of the team and to spare a friend pain.”
Shadow gulped. “He left before they kicked him, typical Bruce.”
“Very typical.” Muttered Belle, “You have my place to yourself tonight Shadow, I’ve got a nice drive ahead of me, I should hit Gotham before dawn. I got somebody to talk to.”
“Ugh.” Muttered Shadow as Belle moved to her hidden closet of ShadowWing gear.
Several hours later ShadowWing found herself moving through the rooftops of Gotham with ease, thank goodness for her psi powers or she would be looking for a needle in a haystack while trying to locate Batman on his nightly patrol. She took note that there were a few hours until dawn and he should be on his final swing about the city by now. A tap into Oracle told her that it was an overall quiet night so ShadowWing should be able to have a nice chat with the flying rodent. After a few more swings about the city she finally spotted him being his normal stoic self crouched on top of a stone gargoyle looking over his city. She landed with the softest of sounds on the roof edge above him and crouched down, he knew she was there, she didn’t try and hide her entrance from him as she usually did.
“It was a tie wasn’t it?” She calmly asked.
“What was a tie ShadowWing, and what are you doing here?” He rumbled not even turning around.
“You were never kicked out of the JLA, you left before they could do so.” Replied ShadowWing, ignoring his defensive question about her visit “That’s why you helped them with the Queen of Fables, you realize they still needed you even if they did not. Face it Belfry Brain, your more of a team player than you give yourself credit for.”
Batman gave a small grin; she would be a perfect successor and sweet revenge in his opinion. “If you say so. Good Luck up there you’re going to need it.” He rumbled before swing off the gargoyle into the night.
ShadowWing sighed, Why does he always have to have the last word? How did he know I would be picked to replace him? As she moved back to where she parked her Viper she answered her own questions. Because he’s Batman that’s why… As she drove back to New York with a huge grin on her face.
As Wonder Woman entered the main meeting room of the WatchTower she noticed Aquaman and Green Lantern looking at a certain chair suspiciously. It was easy to see why; it was in the spot where Batman’s chair once sat. Evidently Superman and J’onn had gone though the list of recommended candidates by the League and one had accepted. The only question was who would it be.
In a vain attempt to be casual about it Wonder Woman tried to look at the chair’s back to see whose symbol was enameled onto the metal. “Won’t work it’s been covered up for now. We already checked.” Grumbled Green Lantern.
“You have no clue either? We all decided on the candidates but who accepted the job?” She asked.
“Not one clue has been given to us.” Growled Aquaman, “Superman has been busy and every time I tried to ask the Manhunter he gets a funny grin and began to snicker.”
“Since when does J’onn snicker?” Asked Flash as he entered the room.
“Since he knows who our new member is and is refusing to tell us.” Answered Wonder Woman.
“Oh. Well I can tell you for a fact Nightwing declined.” The red speedster shrugged, sitting down.
“Damn.” Groused GL, “Whose left? It was a very short list.”
“Too short.” Sputtered Plastic Man, who had just entered the room. He looked at the chair. “Why won’t Superman or Manhunter tell us?”
“Because Superman has been busy and for some reason J’onn is enjoying keeping us in suspense.” Snapped Aquaman.
Plastic Man thought about it. “Then it’s gotta be ShadowWing.”
Looks of horror spread across the assembled Leaguers faces.
“Who else can get J’onn to smile in that way on a consistent basis?” Plastic Man defended his supposition, “Besides she can’t be that bad.”
“You didn’t see what was left of Titan’s Tower after her small tiff with Starfire.” Muttered Flash.
“She won against Starfire?” Gulped Green Lantern.
“Yep.” Nodded Flash with a leering grin at Lantern
“Well I’ve worked with her a few times in New York, crossing paths and such, she’s good, more approachable than Batman at least.” GL said, regaining his cool.
“That could be bad,” hurrumphed Aquaman, “should she decide to follow in Batman’s footsteps.”
“That’s not fair to her Arthur,” scolded Wonder Woman. “I’ve talked to Troia about her, and she replied that ShadowWing is extremely different in tactics and personality when compared to both Nightwing and Batman. She’s devious yes, but not deliberately secretive, like Batman was around us.”
Silence reigned until both Martian Manhunter and Superman entered the room. “Well I take it introductions have been made?” Superman stated and was surprised to see the confused looks on everybody’s faces.
“Not yet Superman though I think that can be quickly cured now.” Stated a clear, amused female voice. The entire JLA whipped around to see the empty chair no longer empty but with a slim female in black and silver casually sitting there with elbow resting on the armrest and her hands folded in front of her chin.
“For those of you who do not know, ShadowWing here is a full range psionic, her primary powers are telepathy and telekinesis, which she can manipulate to perform some interesting tricks.” Stated J’onn trying to keep a serious tone to his voice. He should have known that she’d pull something like this the imp.
“How...” Stuttered Aquaman. “How long have you been sitting there listening to us?”
“Long enough to know I’ve got my work cut out for me,” quipped ShadowWing back. “I was going to show myself soon anyway, I don’t do that trick often and it can give me a headache.”
“Why did you do it the first place?” Wonder Woman asked, a tad suspicious folding her arms akimbo.
ShadowWing’s honesty came forward. “To see if I could pull it off. Oh the black covering on the back of the chair was a psychic illusion too it you want to know.”
“How did you do it?” Asked Plastic Man whose face was in her face yet he was still seated in his chair across the table from her it was a tad disorienting.
“Simple mind trick, nothing invasive. I just project that all you see is an empty chair and your mind sends that message to your eyes and they can’t register that I’m quietly sitting here. I dropped the projection when Superman and Manhunter entered the room.” ShadowWing sheepishly replied.
“We can safely assume that she is not like Batman, he’d never play a practical joke on us. Ever.” Nodded Plastic Man pulling his head back.
“No offense to the Batman, but the man wouldn’t know a practical joke if it came up and bit him.” Smirked ShadowWing.
Slight chuckles of agreement traveled about the room at that quip, much to ShadowWing’s relief.
“Well.” Started Superman attempting to regain some decorum to the meeting. Somehow he would swear that Batman did play a joke on them by setting up ShadowWing to be a perfect replacement on the JLA. Damn Bruce to hell. Let’s get started shall we?”
As the meeting progressed ShadowWing listened and participated as needed throughout the proceedings. She was also gauging the reactions to her in the various members and how to go about earning the trust that Batman had shattered unintentionally.
Plastic Man, she knew little about him, he was an over all prankster and fun loving guy trying to make right. He was badly scared psychologically and emotionally from Talia’s attack with the liquid nitrogen; physically he was just fine though. She made a note to keep her mental distance for now and approach only if he let her. Since she also had a rep of a prankster it should go smoothly.
Wonder Woman, looked like she was going to give her a chance and not tar her with the ‘Bat-Association’ brush. She had Donna to thank for that, bless her heart.
Green Lantern, he’d already seen her in action the few times they crossed paths in New York, because of her rep as a psi he was wary but not as wary as he was around Batman. No real problems there either.
Flash most likely the only person here had a clue on the real identity under her mask; Dick may tell Wally if he asked and since he was already privy to the Bat’s secret she’d tell him if he asked. Again her brief Titan association would help her here as well.
Aquaman, oh man he was going to be a tough one to work with. He was so edgy about her it wasn’t even funny. He still hadn’t forgiven Batman for the betrayal and never would at this rate, she would really have to work to earn his trust period. Of all the JLA members, he posed the greatest challenge.
Superman, he wasn’t as comfortable around her as he was around Dick, which could be chalked up the fact that he hasn’t interacted with her as much as he has with Dick. His wariness would fade as he got to know her so to speak.
J’onn, no need for anything here, in fact it would be a pleasure to see him on a regular basis, she hadn’t been able to keep in touch with him as much as she wanted too. Working together as equals rather than teacher and student would be interesting and enjoyable.
After the meeting ended ShadowWing decided to wander about the WatchTower and get a feel for her new workplace. She finally found the observation deck and paused to admire the view of the Earth. Yes this would be a tough job; there was much she had to do before she could get a feel for this team and they for her, but if she cold pull it off…
ShadowWing smiled to herself, who would believe that the little purple and gray suited imp that tagged behind Batman and Robin in the early days would find herself a member of the JLA?
But here she was, at the pinnacle of the profession so to speak. For the first time since Superman himself popped the question and invitation to her to join the Justice League she felt confident that she was ready for this and she could do the job she was needed for and then some.
Now all she had to do was convince the rest of the JLA of that. Shouldn’t be too big of a problem, after all she had gotten this far in her short life she could do it.
As she walked away from the observation deck, idly whistling a tune, she decided her first order of business as a JLA member would be to have a nice chat with Plastic Man and coordinate the planned attack of practical jokes so they wouldn’t reduce the WatchTower to complete chaos.
They’ll soon learn that ShadowWing was no Batman and life on the WatchTower was going to get allot more interesting…
End!
